AP Guides

AP study guides

These are nine guides for AP Computer Science A, AP Computer Science Principles and AP Cybersecurity. They are all written the same way: first get clear on what the exam asks for, then study for that.

The three exams at a glance

  • AP CSA — the 2027 exam is on 12 May, three hours, fully digital. Two sections: 42 multiple-choice questions (55%) and 4 free-response questions (45%).
  • AP CSP — 30% of the score comes before the exam: the Create Performance Task project, given in March. The rest comes from the end-of-course multiple-choice exam.
  • AP Cybersecurity — first exam 5 May 2027, fully digital in Bluebook. 60 multiple-choice questions (70%) and 1 free-response question (30%).

Where to start

If you have not decided which course to take, start with AP CSA vs AP CSP — it also covers where AP Cybersecurity fits. If the course is already decided, go straight to that course's exam format guide; a study plan only makes sense once you know the format.

One reminder: choose by the question you are trying to answer, not by the course name. You can take one or several, and there is no required order.
